History
First released in 1937, Kakubin is a perennial bestseller, celebrating its 80th anniversary. It remains Japan's top-selling whiskey.
Kakubin was created by Suntory founder Shinjiro Torii, who aimed to create "a Japanese whiskey that rivals Scotch."
Design
The Kakubin bottle features a tortoiseshell pattern inspired by Satsuma Kiriko glass. This design incorporates a Japanese flair into whiskey.
The Kakubin label does not feature the word "Kakubin," and the name was coined by anyone due to the bottle's shape, and has since stuck.
